I have, however, noticed some strange behaviour when switching between VFO's A & B while using 3.5 Beta: ## VFO A When the 'VFO A' button is pressed all is OK; the 'A' frequency appears on the main readout and the 'B' on the secondary readout. At this point, if the 'A/B' button is pressed the rig changes frequency and the main and secondary readouts are transposed as you would expect. Strangely, though, the 'VFO A' button remains illuminated and the 'VFO B' dark. ## VFO B When the 'VFO B' button is pressed, however, the secondary readout sticks on the 'B' frequency. Rig frequency and main readout change as expected. Thus the rig is left with VFO B displayed twice. The 'A/B' button does nothing! ## This behaviour happens on all clients and also when the server PC is used to control the rig directly. I've always been unable to use HRD's direct frequency entry mode for VFO B; that erratic behaviour seems to have spread to the buttons. Re-loading 3.4 returns the button behaviour to normal (direct entry still strange). ## G3YXM and G4FPH have noticed this as well, so it's not just down to my system! Another 'funny' carried over from 3.4 is that when the 'MBC' button is pressed it doesn't 'light up' but the Manual Beat Cancel IS activated. The only way to switch off 'MBC' is to press 'BC' twice (on then off again). Thanks again for the smashing software. I hope this helps. 73, de Phil, GJ4CBQ. |

So basically, the computer hardware configuration that I was using was the same as used by my Windows XP installation. I installed HRD (latest from DM780 area). Installation ran fine. HRD starts up OK. But when trying to connect to the radio, HRD no longer would enumerate all of my "virtual" serial ports. Running under XP all 8 virtual ports are listed, but running under Vista, HRD doesn't show them. Just something to keep in mind when/if you ever officially support Vista. For example, K2 RTTY (mode value 6) and RTTY-R (mode value 9) get passed thru as USB (mode value 2). (K2 RTTY is really a data mode, not "true" RTTY). In the IC-746 Pro, RTTY gets passed thru as LSB (see http://forums.ham-radio.ch/showthread.php?t=6366). I don't know if this is an HRD issue or an N8VB issue (if N8VB, probably not much could be done about it), but as long as you're twidling with HRD's innards, maybe you could take a quick look at this? More of an annoyance really, but appears to affect multiple rigs (I had thought it was only an issue w/Elecraft K2s). TNX. BTW, K2 RTTY is LSB, while RTTY-R is USB. |

Here is the sequence of events that cause and correct this in my environment. I am running XP PRO, 2000+ AMD with 1 GB memory of bothe mactines with a FIC M/B SIS IO set. 1. start with a fresh install of HRD and PSK31, in this case Build 1241. 2. Start HRD and just do whatever. 3. Start PSK31 from HRD.. 4. In PSK use a macro to reply to QSO (XMT Immediately) CALL CALL de MY CALL MYCALL ( at this point the cursor is not in the text box and must be moused and dropped there. 5.. to fix the problem start over with PSK31 running first and call HRD from the PSK31 program. Everything will behave normally now. I don't know if this helps or confuses the issue Simon, hopefully it helps. It is really strange and I wonder if it is something I am doing (or perhaps not doing in setup) |

I followed the link to the DX Cluster.kml file and opened it up just fine with Google Earth. All the DX Cluster stations were identified with numbers and their callsign. Looking at the error message, I think I found the problem: One of the subfolders that contain the file has the & character as part of the name, no underline of course. This is the point at which the error occurs. I'm guessing Google Earth does not know what to do with it?? I tried to change the name of the folder, but since it is a Windows system folder, I cannot change it easily. Simon, can you think of a workaround for this? (c) PSK31 normally loads full screen and I resize it so I can see other software that I normally run - Wavenode Pwr/SWR meter for instance. Using the resized screen in classic channel 1, and clicking "Favourites down" (PSK31 top of screen << arrow) causes a crash and during tests this morning has been quite repeatable. However running PSK31 full screen, in classic channel 1, appears to have reduced the problem quite significantly - I have been moving up and down using the Favourites button << >> many times and only had one crash whereas with the resized screen it happens almost immediately. Does this shed any light on the problem area - can anyone else here confirm this behaviour? Trevor G0KTN |
